The Annual Key Club Convention was held on April 18-20 2008 at
the Richmond Marriott. Our SHS Key club was wonderfully
represented by Amanda Lewis, Gina Latimer, Amy Esser, Samantha
Ketcham, Keith Tucker, James Hirst, Jonas Kaltr, and P.J. Cave.
They exhibited exemplary behavior. Our club was recognized for
participating in the Governor and District projects (Wounded
Warriors and Nothing but Nets).
Our officers were all recognized as distinguished:
Amanda Lewis-President
Gina Latimer-Vice-President
Amy Esser-Treasurer
Samantha Ketcham-Secretary
We all learned exciting new ways to fund raise and plan to add
badges to our banner next year.940 Key Club members were at the
convention. How exciting to see all of these selfless young
people together who all share a passion for service. 'The
Capital District is the 3rd largest in the U.S. (behind Texas
and California)-14000 members.
If anyone doubts the capabilities of today's youth-let me assure
you that service organizations such as ours attract the best and
the brightest. I am truly proud to be part of this organization.
Future projects include: Chili/Dessert Bake off (to benefit The
Red Cross) and school improvement Lock-in May 23. May 10 we
will participate in Smithfield High Day at Barnes and Noble in
Newport News from 9-3. We are going to read to the children from
9-1. The school library will receive a percentage of that day's
profits when customers present vouchers
A very special
